Why Co-operative?

Our cooperative is based on the values of self-help, self-responsibility, democracy and equality. Cooperative members generally believe in the ethical values of honesty, openness, social responsibility and caring for others. We attempt to share power equally and to make decisions by consensus.

The cafe, as a worker owned collective can be not only a resource for the community, but also a living example of a more humane economy. We aim to provide yummy vegan and organic food to ourselves and to the general public. We are not aiming to make profit, or even to pay ourselves wages. This drastically changes the relationship between us and the work we do. We are working for the enjoyment of it, to make personal connections, and to inspire ourselves and others.

Keeping it local is the way to go, I think. With the recession at the moment we dont want to add extra costs on top. There are many alternatives out there and to be competitive price is one of the key.
